Roller Blinds

Custom made roller blinds come in blackout, room darkening, light filtering and sunscreen/solar fabric options. They are mounted on a metal headrail and operated with a side chain or spring mechanism. Cheaper and ready made blinds often come with a PVC pole instead of a metal headrail. They are widely used in western countries.

Roman Blinds

Roman Blinds are a type of window blind used to help block out the sun. Although often called blinds, these are actually referred to as “shades” in the window covering industry. When opened, the Romans stack up evenly; when covering the full window height, they are smooth without overlapping.

Roman blinds can be purchased with a blackout lining on the back to fully block out sunlight. However, there will always be small light gaps on the edges of the blinds if mounted on the inside of the window frame or peaking out from behind the blind if mounted on the frame around the window.

Unlike other blinds, such as certain fabrics used for Roller Shades, Vinyl Vertical blinds, or Vinyl Horizontal blinds, Roman Shades are not an ideal option for areas with a lot of moisture, such as bathrooms or windows above the kitchen sink.

Zebra Blinds

Zebra Blinds in trending and modern choice in Roller Blinds, They come with a option to fully block the sun, half block or have some of the sunshine. Not many companies in New Zealand supply Zebra Blinds as it’s the newest form of Blinds, Zebra blinds is undoubtedly a best choice for modern homes.

Zebra Blinds use a double layer fabrics which can save the space and adjust the light. It not only combines the advantage of fabrics and yarn, but also integrates the venetian blinds, roller blinds and roman blinds. Fabric and sheer combines to softly filter light and provide UV protection. The privacy is secure.

It provides a clear view to the outside and obscured when view from outside during the day. Zebra Blinds is made of polyester fabric, which is environment friendly, non toxic and harmless.

Vertical Blinds

Unlike horizontal blinds, vertical blinds are less likely to collect dust because they stand vertically. Since they draw to the side rather than lifting and lowering, they are easier and faster to operate. They operate best on patio doors and sliding windows that slide from side to side.

Vertical blinds became available in flat plastic (PVC), fabric, embossed PVC, faux wood materials, metal, wood and also S-curved slats. Vertical blinds were most popular in the western world during the 1990s, since when sales have slowed as they lost popularity with a younger generation.

Venetian / Horizontal Blinds

A Venetian blind has horizontal slats, located one above another. Venetian blinds are basic horizontal slats made of metal, vinyl, PVC or plastic. Wood slats are sometimes used but in the US these are now usually referred to as wood blinds.

Venetian blinds are suspended by strips of cloth called fabric tapes, or by cords (i.e. Ladders), by which all slats in unison can be rotated through nearly 180 degrees. The slats can be rotated such that they overlap with one side facing inward and then in the opposite direction such that they overlap with the other side facing inward. Between those extremes, various degrees of separation may be effected between the slats by varying the rotation. There are also lift cords passing through slots in each slat. When these cords are pulled, the bottom of the blind moves upward, causing the lowest slats to press the underside of the next highest slat as the blind is raised. A modern variation of the lift cords combines them with the rotational cords in slots on the two edges of each slat. This avoids the slots otherwise required to allow a slat to rotate despite a lift cord passing through it, thus decreasing the amount of light passing through a closed blind. Slat width can be between 16 and 120 mm, with 25 mm being a common width.

Curtains

Curtains are manufactured from a variety of thick fabrics, each with a differing degree of light absorption and heat insulating qualities. For maximum temperature control, the curtain gap to the window should be small, with minimum convection drafts below or above the curtain. Various architectural structures around the curtain can minimize these air drafts, but usually they are just used for decoration and make rooms feel more cozy.

A sheer or net curtain is one that is made from translucent fabric, such as a loosely woven polyester voile or a cotton lace. Sheer curtains allow a majority of light to be transmitted through the fabric, with the fabric weave providing a basic level of UV protection while retaining maximum visibility outward through the curtain. Sheer curtains are sometimes referred to as “privacy curtains” in reference to their screening abilities; during the day most sheer fabrics will allow people inside the home to see the outside view while preventing people outside the home from seeing directly into the home. Due to the loose weave in sheer fabrics, these types of curtains offer very little in the way of heat insulation.

Sun Screen Blinds

Sunscreen blinds are made from a specially designed mesh fabric which lets in plenty of light, while protecting you from the sun’s glare and rays. Sunscreen blinds block out up to 95% of the sun’s harmful rays, which provides the bonus of being a great energy efficient blind.

Sunscreen blinds provide a great level of privacy as you can’t see into the room from outside, although they are not a block out fabric, meaning you can still see through them and maintain your outside view. However the opposite is true at night, sunscreen blinds do not provide privacy at night when the lights are on, so they are not ideal for bedrooms or bathrooms unless they are used with a block-out blind in a dual blind set-up.

Wooden Blinds

Wooden blinds are made up of rows of horizontal wooden slats. The slats are linked by a pulley cord that allows them to be rotated to almost 180 degrees. When raised, the slats gather neatly at the top of your window. When fully lowered, they can be rotated to block sunlight or angled for privacy. Wooden blinds have the unique ability to obscure views from outside whilst still allowing sunlight and fresh air to flow into your home. The sturdy wooden slats also protect against shadows and outlines, which is particularly important for rooms that are overlooked by neighbors or passers by. This makes them a great choice for living rooms and bedrooms.

When shopping for wooden blinds, consider a made to measure service which guarantees a perfect fit. This means you won’t be responsible for trimming down slats that are a little oversized.
